Selfish

The other day when we were cleaning up his room, my son said to me that we are always selfish, no matter how we twist and turn it. He wanted to give some clothes and toys he has outgrown to charity.

He said that if I give this, I will help someone but it will give me the satisfaction of giving, it makes me feel good. So than I am selfish. Cleaning up ended in a wonderful talk about life and really made me think. Yes indeed, we do things because it makes us feel good. If we smile to someone, this person smiles back. Mostly. And it makes us feel happy. But sometimes they don´t smile back. But than I still feel good about it because you never know what this person is going through. So maybe it is just about balance.You give something and receive something back. It is not selfish, it is just the way the Universe works, it´s a circle. What could be wrong about giving something and receiving a happy feeling in return?
