A Mesa is a shaman´s altar or medicine bundle used for healing, ceremony, prayer and divination. When I open my Mesa I open my sacred space. The Mesa deepens my awareness to other states or reality and helps me to connect with the Other Worlds. It is a primary healing tool representing the powers I work with to activate the balance (ayni). It consists of objects, gifts that have a significant value for me. For some it might just look like a bundle of objects but for me they hold lots of information and truly connect me with Spirit. My Mesa has not changed a lot over the years. The first object was my amulet with the Tree of Life and Star of David symbol on it. A few feathers, some minerals, holy water, a branch, a pendelum, a tibetan bell, a small Ganesha statue, a dragon in jade...were added.

If you want to start your own Mesa you can start by collecting stones that you resonate with. If a stone becomes part of your mesa, it is called a kuya.I want to share with you a kuya from my Mesa. When I was joining a one day retreat in the mountains, we went for a silent walk to connect with a big stone´s energy up the mountain top and to enjoy its wonderful view. The facilitator asked me to lead a meditation once we arrived at the top. Climbing up in silence gave me some time to prepare myself in my mind. My attention was drawn to a small white shiny marble stone with some green and brown color spots on its surface. I held it in my hand following the path and words started to flow in my head. It gave me the inspiration I needed to lead the mediation. Every stone has its own energy. It does not matter how small or big. They all have a story to tell, an energy or function to share when you open your heart for it. Since that moment this stone became a part of my Mesa. Don´t worry about where or how or which stone to choose because whe you are ready the stone will choose you.
